Making the most of your doctor visit

Keeping the lines of communication open with your healthcare provider is important, yet it's easy to feel rushed during a doctor's visit, or simply to forget things you had wanted to say. But there are a few things you can do to stay focused. You can try tracking your COPD symptoms between visits or bringing along a friend. Even something as simple as taking notes can help make the most of the time spent with your doctor.

Try this advice for a change:
  • Before you go, write down any COPD symptoms you are experiencing—what makes them worse, what makes them better, and how they are affecting your life in general.
  • Bring a list of all of your medications including vitamins, herbal preparations, and supplements. Also be sure to mention any drug allergies you have.
  • Take notes to help you remember what you talked about during your visit.
  • Bring along a relative or friend to provide you with support and an extra set of ears.
