COPD will impact your life differently at different times

Knowing what to expect is important so that you can work with your doctor to shape a treatment plan. Certain therapies are used to manage symptoms at each stage of the disease. These include short- and long-acting bronchodilators (alone or in combination with anti-inflammatory medications), pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen therapy, smoking cessation, and vaccines to prevent infection. Learn about a treatment option that helps significantly improve lung function so you can breathe better.

Stage 1, Mild COPD:

At this stage, airflow is only mildly limited, and the person may not know that his/her lung function is abnormal.

Stage 2, Moderate COPD:

By this stage, limited airflow is causing symptoms like shortness of breath on exertion. People usually seek medical attention at this stage.

Stage 3: Severe COPD:

By this stage, there is increased worsening of symptoms, repeated exacerbations, and further decline in lung function.

Stage 4, Very Severe COPD:

By this stage, airflow limitation is severe, symptoms are severe, and exacerbations may be life threatening.
